Wakatobi Dive Resort is an award-winning eco resort in Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia, where divers and snorkelers enjoy luxurious amenities and the highest levels of personal service in a tranquil natural setting. The resort is surrounded by one of the most diverse and prolific marine habitats in the world. Direct charter flights provide easy access to this otherwise remote locale, where guests enjoy five-star service and luxury accommodations in a collection of villas and bungalows situated along a white sand beach.

Wakatobi’s pristine house reef has been named one of the world’s best shore dives. Stretching over three miles, it lies just fin-kicks away from the beach with a reef drop-off that begins at depths of two meters and plunges to more than 40. It is flanked by near shore grass beds that bloom with exotic marine life. At night, Wakatobi’s house reef explodes into a flurry of activity.

Wakatobi is surrounded by more than 43 named dive sites, most within a short boat ride of the resort. They range from shallow coral gardens to precipitously undercut walls and fish-laden sea mounts. These sites are all protected within a marine reserve that is funded by a portion of the resort’s proceeds.

Wakatobi’s full-service dive center is equally suited for divers and snorkelers of all abilities and interests. Calm conditions and multi-level profiles allow for long, comfortable, 70-minute-plus dives. A international team of skilled, trained guides attend to divers and snorkelers – at a ratio of one guide per four guests, providing a personalized experience. Guides assist divers depending on their wishes and needs, and are experts at finding and pointing out the tremendous array of rare fish, brilliant corals and vibrant sponges that call Wakatobi’s reefs home.
Wakatobi Dive Resort

“Extraordinary resort! We are overwhelmed by the diving, accommodation, staff and the food. I do not think I have ever taken such a relaxing trip. The attention to detail and attention to the guests is outstanding. When you google dive resort, Wakatobi Dive Resort should be the only hit. Best of everything for the diving experience!” – Dale and Karen Wallace, August 2015

Wakatobi’s resort photo pro offers custom underwater photography sessions ranging from one-day macro workshops to one-week comprehensive training programs. Wakatobi’s exclusive partnership with Seacam underwater systems enables guests to utilize Seacam’s state-of-the-art underwater housings with Canon 5D Mark III cameras.

Other well known features of the Wakatobi experience include gourmet meals and fine dining, which is included with all packages, a full service Spa, additional watersports such as kayaking, paddleboarding and kite boarding, walking tours, a kids club and nanny services, and an on site turtle nursery open for guests.

A world-class dive resort experience, combined with a luxury liveaboard dive yacht, the Pelagian, which cruises the outer reaches of the Wakatobi Archipelago, have made Wakatobi one of the world’s most desirable diving destinations.

Visited in May 2016 and the experience was truly over the top. First of all – it’s in the kind of remote and isolated location that experienced divers are always searching for. Yet getting here is easy and comfortable: fly into Bali’s international airport, stay at one of the many comfortable near-airport accommodations, then receive wonderful and personal service the next morning to take the 2.5 hour charter flight directly to the resort’s own airstrip (built and operated to international standards). A short boat ride delivers you to the resort’s jetty where a warm welcome awaits.

The resort itself: location, layout, accommodation, facilities, staff, is also outstanding. There is tremendous attention to detail in every aspect, clearly a lot of love and effort have gone into creating this wonderful place. I recommend taking the resort tour to see “behind-the-scenes” what it takes to build and run this kind of facility – quite amazing.

Lose some weight before coming here because you will surely gain a few pounds back. The food is on par with the best I’ve had at 5-star hotels & resorts, maybe even better. A wide selection of interesting dishes both western and regional, lots of variation day-to-day, and a very personable/responsive kitchen & wait staff always interested how they can make your dining experience even more special. Really fantastic.

I’ll make a special mention of the jetty bar. Perfect spot for sunset viewing, relaxing, and good conversation with other guests – don’t miss it!

I almost forgot to mention the diving since everything else was so great – but the diving was also tremendous. Our visit was just at the end of the warm-water season, and in fact the water was very warm (easily doable without a wet-suit though we used 3mm to stay entirely comfortable). Yet there was little to no evidence of bleaching on the reefs. In fact they were some of the healthiest, unspoiled, most colorful, and diverse reefs I’ve ever seen with a wonderful amount and variety of creatures & fish. And very clear water to see them through. Every dive was great – nothing disappointing. The warm water meant that some of the more unusual creatures were scarce (hiding out at greater depths), but still there was plenty to see and enjoy, and again the amount and diversity of life was really fantastic.

To be honest I was a bit apprehensive about diving here as I’d heard the dive sites described as “mostly wall diving” which is not my favorite. Yes there were walls, but in most cases the reefs were more sloping than purely vertical, and just about every dive site had a varied topography which also included canyons, ridges, sandy bottom areas, shallow reef areas, etc. I found all the dive sites to be very interesting/fun and would not describe the diving here as being strictly wall-diving. Should be described simply as “great diving.”

All in all I’d say this is the finest dive resort I’ve been to, definitely should be on every diver’s must-do list.

I just returned from my trip to Wakatobi. This resort met my expectations in every way. The accommodations were lovely, the food excellent and the service-over the top. From the minute I arrived in Balli until the time I left, I was escourted and assisted. Every member of the staff was friendly and helpful and by the end of the first day, everyone knew my name. The diving was excellent and the reefs are healthy and rich with life. This is my first diving experience in Indonesio and it will be hard to match. I am definitely going back.

We have been lucky enough to visit Wakatobi Dive Resort twice – in 2012 for our honeymoon and again in 2014. It really was so good we had to go there again! As experienced UK divers, we have dived many places around the world, but the quality of the truly unspoilt diving coupled with the superb operation, friendliness of staff and attention to detail at Wakatobi puts this unique resort above all others.
Right from the moment you arrive at Bali airport for the private air charter to Wakatobi, you are well-looked after by friendly, attentive and knowledgeable staff and you don’t have to worry about a thing. Customer service is something that Wakatobi excels at and you feel like an honoured and welcome guest throughout your stay. A particular highlight was our Romantic Dinner on the beach; it made our honeymoon extra-special!
On our second visit in 2014, the staff remembered us – and as with every guest, all the staff members know your name by the end of the first day.
I don’t think that any diver can fail to be impressed by the sheer diversity of amazing marine life in the lovely clear warm waters. On every dive, we saw new and exciting creatures – the Yellow-barred Jawfish and Coleman Shrimps were particular favourites! At Wakatobi, diving is easy for all ages with spacious dive boats manned by experienced crew who are ready with hot towels, drinks and snacks for when you return. Dives last up to 70 minutes and in 3mm wetsuits, we were entirely comfortable.
The House Reef is one of the best we’ve seen; very convenient for diving and snorkelling close to the resort. Don’t forget your camera, it’s a photographer’s paradise – even if you just have a compact camera inside an underwater housing as we did. You can still get impressive shots.
We loved our Wakatobi Villa the first time, which was absolutely beautiful and private. Our Ocean Bungalow was also superb, with cooling sea breezes and perfectly-positioned for fabulous sunsets. Last, but not least, we really enjoyed the delicious food – top-notch quality with plenty of variety, fresh fruits and meats, not to mention the lovely ice-creams!

Wakatobi Dive Resort has grown to be a fantastic resort. My 1st visit there they had barely built there airstrip which made the long old 39 hour prior trips to the resort a night mare! Now it’s just a mere 2 1/2 hours. The old fashion way it involved a two and a half day air – land – sea journey that will certainly be an experience you can tell your friends about back home. When arriving you are met by the staff and your bags and gear are loaded into vans for a short trip to the nearby dock. You are loaded then onto a small boats for a short 20 minute ride to the resort.
The resort is nestled onto the point of the Island hidden amongst the trees. It’s an L shaped resort, if by looking from the pier, the right side has nice gentle breezes which makes it nice you can leave off the AC. It has one of the best house reefs that I have ever seen. There dive sites are all less than 30 minutes away and have 43 sites to choose from. They put their restaurant out on the point, where you can enjoy cool breeze as you eat their gourmet food. Wakatobi is a photographer’s dream! The water is so clear that feel like you are diving in a pristine pool and god sent you all “Must shoot species!” You need to put Wakatobi on your bucket list!
